[News] '2010's Best Rising Star' Co.Ed, Successful Debut

Co.Ed, "Call Us Hybrid-Dols" 10 Colors' New World

Beast-dols, acting-dols, model-dols.... As the amount of idols in the nation's music industry is increasing, each idol is creating their own individuality. To appeal to the public, what charms will Co.Ed, another idol group, have to show in the current music industry that is overflowing with idols.
Co.Ed, who had their first debut stage on 9/30, told Newsen at an interview, "We want to be called hybrid-dols", and they revealed that they would definitely make it Co.Ed's own color.

For the trend of idol groups picking their own title, Co.Ed said in chorus, "We think being called hybrid-dols would match us the most."

Co.Ed is not the nation's first hybrid groups. Returning to far pasts, there were many hybrid groups such as Chuli & Miae, Young Turks Club, ZAZA, Space A, and Cool. However, after idols were created in the music industry, Co.Ed is the first to be hybrid idols.

But with this reason, the intention that Co.Ed has is different. Those that are currently sweeping our nation's music industry are idols, and girl groups at that. Following Wonder Girls and Girls' Generation, there are groups like KARA, miss A, 2NE1, and female idols are the trend now. Although their charms are excellent, the concept and song styles in the girl group generation, has been tiring for a long time.

To this, Co.Ed is determined to approach the public with charms and skills that only hybrid idols could show.

Co.Ed members say, "We can express those feelings more exquisitely than male or female idol groups who do the same love song." And showed their confidence by saying, "Even with just the lyrics, we can put both genders' feelings into it, and we think we can expand into more various territories with music genres than the common idol can. We'll show you Co.Ed's own color."

Just like they said, Co.Ed will blow fresh winds onto the music industry with a new format and a new style. Co.Ed, who brought out their debut title song, 'Too Late', made with a strong electronic sound, added on their excellent dancing skills with their unique voices. Those aspects along with the charms of a hybrid group, coated their standing out choreography.

The pelvic dance is especially the main point. The pelvic dance they do at the refrain, when turning around, seems similar to KARA's pelvic dance that they made a hit. However, their charms are 180 degrees different. The pelvic dance showed the hybrid idols' strong points and charms directly as the male members do it angled and powerfully and the female members are sexy while being fierce.

Also, Co.Ed stated that there are a lot of good points to be a hybrid group.

Smile Soomi, who was a member of Seeya, is a case that experienced both a girl group and a hybrid group. Smile Soomi explained, "Because there is a different point of view for males and females, we can give advice to each other about the dance or singing so we can improve and I think that's the largest positive point. Even for the freestyle dancing during the choreography for 'Too Late', the members created it and consulted each other for it," and, "And the male members have good stamina so when the female members see them practicing, we get stimulated with the thought to catch up and it becomes an assistance to our improvement."

'Rising stars' Co.Ed "After experiencing the stage once, we're more nervous"

10 membered, hybrid group, Co.Ed, has started their debut rituals.

Their debut is a success. On the day that they had a news conference for the 3D music video of their debut title song, 'Too Late', Smile Soomi, who was a Seeya member, and One Light Hyoyoung, who was the winner for Miss Chunhyang, reached the search engine rankings on one portal site and as soon as Co.Ed went on KBS 2TV's Music Bank stage, they went on the search engine rankings again. The interest and anticipation that music fans have for Co.Ed seems to be shown in the results.

However, the members who stood on their dream stage, stated, "There's so many points we lacked in. We want to hurry and show 100% of our skills."

We met Co.Ed, who debuted through Mnet's "M Countdown" on 9/30, on KBS 2TV's "Music Bank" on 10/1, directly after they finished their stage. They said that they were more nervous for their second stage rather than their first stage.

Sky Earth Yoosung revealed, "With the debut stage we were eagerly looking forward to, in front of us, it was actually calm. Because we needed to change clothes and stand on stage twice, there wasn't any time to be nervous." And added, "But after we experienced being on stage once, I was more nervous on the second stage."

On the other hand, Rascal Kwangheng expressed his thoughts, "I was nervous most at the few seconds that we were looking at stage before going on it. However, as we went on the stage and the song that we practiced over hundreds of times came out, that nervousness seemed to disappear. And I think it was less burdensome because of the members being there too."

In reality, Co.Ed's debut stage was a success. Although there was tensed expressions and body movements, they properly digested a powerful dance and song that most newcomers could not show. They easily grab our attention and the strongly addictive clock dance and butt dance is already being a hot topic. The choreography that shows the male and female contrast and mix, left a deep impression.

Replying to this, Smile Soomi remembered the days filled with sweat and effort prior to debuting, "I think because we practiced for a long time, the choreography was synchronized," And added, "Usually we practiced from 10 AM to 2~3 AM, and there were days where we stayed up all night. And there were times when we just changed our clothes and then started practicing again."

However, Co.Ed members continuously state that they still have many lacking points. Co.Ed showed their determination by saying, "Because we wear the headset microphone, which is different from when we practice, it's awkward and our breathing sounds rough and I think there were a lot of times where we missed our expression." And added, "We will practice better and show a more comfortable and non-artificial, a Co.Ed-like stage."

On the other hand, 'Too Late' shows a fierce charisma that doesn't seem idol-like and in the middle of October, they are planning to come back with a totally different style of music and will show a new side to music fans.
